Gerard Court / River Court
Bronx, New York
Completion Date 2000
Gerard Court consists of three buildings connected around a landscaped courtyard. One enters the courtyard by passing through the main entrance, which is seven stories and provides one point of security for all apartments. Two three-story buildings, designed as townhouses, project off the main building. These townhouse-like units have their own entrances from the secure, landscaped courtyard. Due to an active elevated railroad track runs directly adjacent to the site to the west, a sound attenuation wall was incorporated into the project, along with other techniques to reduce the impact of the noise. In addition, the wall visually blocks the lower part of the railroad trestle and offers security from River Avenue.
